The boring iconic hat man is now in Watch Dogs: Legion

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 02:59 PM PDT

Look, I know some of you like Aiden Pearce and the original Watch_Dogs. I've seen you on Twitter talking about how it was grittier than the games that followed. You thought Aiden was dark and haunted, like a Batman who fell down a well and landed in a cave filed with baseball caps.

I happen to think you're wrong, but I'm happy for you, really. The new Watch Dogs: Legion Bloodline DLC is out now, and it adds a bearded Capman to the most recent of Ubisoft's hackfests.

SteelRising gets a new trailer to show its French Revolution robot combat

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 02:25 PM PDT

We've seen a handful of videos of SteelRising already. The new game from middling RPG specialists Spiders is set during an alternate history 18th century Paris, one filled with robots. It's a setting that lets you write fun sentences, like explaining that you play as Aegis, the automaton bodyguard for Marie Antoinette.

Below is the first time we've seen the game's combat in action, though.

The slow, stealthy progress of the PC absorbing PlayStation has taken another step this week with the latest Assassin’s Creed Valhalla patch. Players using PlayStation 5 controllers with Ubi’s Viking romp will now feel an extra step when pulling the adaptive triggers while aiming, just before letting an arrow loose. This was a PlayStation 5 feature, but now we have it too. Just like we’ll soon have Uncharted 4.

TIE Fighter: Total Conversion is a stunning mod remake of the classic Star Wars shooter

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:15 AM PDT

As we've previously mentioned, X-Wing Alliance Upgrade is an incredible overhaul of the ancient space shooter that makes it look like it was made yesterday, in a galaxy right next door. Everything has been renewed by the modders, bringing 3D cockpits, gorgeous lighting, upgraded ship models, and even VR to the game. That spectacular work has resulted in another remake.

TIE Fighter: Total Conversion is a mod for Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, perfectly recreating one of the best space games and arguably best ever Star Wars game of all time, Star Wars: TIE Fighter. It once again has me plugging in my headset and dusting off my joystick.

The Weekspot podcast #045: OOPs, they're doing it again

I don't think many were betting on Control getting a co-op spin-off. Some Remedy fans might be a bit put off by the studio focusing on a multiplayer game, but we're a little more positive.

Co-op shooter Space Punks looks like a top-down Borderlands

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 04:46 AM PDT

I’m not being pithy for the sake of a headline. Space Punks really does look a lot like Borderlands: it’s a cartoonish, co-op looter shooter. The key differences are that it's top-down (like Borderlands' original inspiration of Diablo), the shooting looks a lot more fun and OTT, and the comedy begins and ends by adding the word ‘space’ to everything.

League Of Legends' lo-fi album is surprisingly good

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 03:16 AM PDT

Sometimes when I'm reading a book or doing the dishes, I need a bit of ambience to carry me through. Lo-fi music often does the trick, so when I spotted that Riot Games Music had released a League Of Legends themed lo-fi compilation, I hesitantly dipped my ear in. And I didn't recoil! In fact, I added it to my saved albums. Now that's a seal of approval.

Have You Played... Two Point Hospital?

Posted: 05 Jul 2021 11:30 PM PDT

Like many, Theme Hospital was a mainstay of my middle childhood. Bullfrog's appreciably wacky approach to a hospital management sim has ensured that, to this day, management sims are one of the only strategy-adjacent sort of strategy games that I really enjoy. And a few years ago, a new stuidio emerged to take up that odd torch, providing us with Two Point Hospital.
