Nintendo Reminds Us Splatoon 3 Is Still On The Way Posted: 14 Jul 2021 06:55 PM PDT Patience now, Inklings. One upcoming Switch release that probably deserves a bit more love is Splatoon 3. It's a little difficult though when Nintendo hasn't really said anything about the game since the initial reveal at the start of this year. So, what's going on with this third entry currently scheduled for a 2022 release? While there's no proper development update on the game, Nintendo has shared a special message via social media - wishing everyone a happy summer on behalf of the Splatoon 3 team. To go with this message, it even posted some special artwork: Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

It's always interesting when a new and slightly improved system is announced to see just how much it will cost compared to the existing model which does much the same. In the case of the Switch OLED, it's going to be $50 more than the price of the original hybrid model - bumping the total amount up to $350 USD. If it's got you wondering what it might cost on Nintendo's end, read on... Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Yep, Tantalus Was Also The Developer Of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Posted: 14 Jul 2021 04:55 PM PDT You might remember its work on Twilight Princess HD. It's becoming increasingly common for Nintendo to lend out its IP and call on the services of external studios to help remake and remaster its classic library of games - so it's no surprise to discover that the company's latest release, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, was also handled by someone else. As highlighted by the Australian Nintendo fansite Vooks.net, the developer of the enhanced Switch port was the Melbourne-based Aussie developer Tantalus. This information was confirmed in the credits of the game. While the studio may not be widely known, it actually has a bit of history with The Legend of Zelda series dating back to 2016. Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs World Generation Is Here, And It's Incredible Posted: 14 Jul 2021 03:00 PM PDT Cheese caves! CHEESE CAVES!! Yesterday, the 13th of July, Mojang updated Minecraft to version 1.17.10, which wasn't too exciting for Switch players (unless you were really looking forward to the candles), but hidden in the "experimental features" section was Mojang's new world generation tools. You may already know that the huge Caves & Cliffs update was split in two, with new mobs and blocks mostly in the first update, and the much-awaited world generation changes in the second update. 1.17.10 allows players to opt in in order to access that world generation for the first time, although it's worth noting that it is still experimental and can't be guaranteed not to crash. Button City Brings 'Hope-Punk' And Friendship To Switch This Summer Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:00 PM PDT Harmony and melodies. Button City has anthropomorphic foxes, pandas, rabbits, raccoons and cats living in harmony in a peaceful little community, and if that has your interest piqued, then you'll be excited to hear that you don't have long to wait to play it on the Nintendo Switch. Here's some more potentially exciting words to do with the game: arcades, friendship, wholesome, mini games, cute merch, low-poly. And here's a whole sentence: Button City will be out on the Nintendo Switch eShop on August 10th! Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Nintendo's Record On Conflict Minerals Is Praised, But With An Important Catch Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:00 PM PDT Avoids rather than confronts problem areas. Just recently Nintendo released its corporate social responsibility report; there were various positives in its various policies, albeit there is always room for improvement. One area that's tackled, in manufacturing, is the sourcing of key resources with the desire to avoid 'conflict minerals' from mines and smelters that fund militias and lead to crime and human rights abuses. GamesIndustry.biz has published its annual report assessing this area, and also the records of major technology companies including Nintendo. There's a lot of interesting detail on the background of the problem, the legislation in the US and Europe to counter it, and the general trends and progress being made. Companies make disclosures each year, with tech companies typically being "quite good" compared to some other industries. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Soapbox: Nintendo Is More Collaborative And Open Than Ever, Which Benefits Us All Posted: 14 Jul 2021 10:00 AM PDT Everyone's a winner. Nintendo is a company that has never been particularly good at communication. But it is a company that is good at learning from their errors. You remember that infamous Skyward Sword demo at E3 2010, right? The one where Miyamoto walked out onstage, waggled his controller around, and couldn't get it to work (that sounded dirtier than I meant it to)? It's no surprise that the following year Nintendo began using pre-recorded Nintendo Directs, meaning it wouldn't have to undergo live demo humiliation again. The last few years have seen Nintendo adopt an unprecedented new approach, where partnerships with a variety of companies are forged, with their approach to communication with fans changing significantly. Nintendo Directs, originally developed under the direction of Satoru Iwata, allowed for communication directly with fans; whilst the company's approach to fan events and community creation based on Nintendo franchises is behind where we would want it to be, its focus on game development software like Super Mario Maker and the recent Game Builder Garage shows a level of willingness for 'other people' to make Nintendo-like games. Intriguing Shooter 'Darwin 4078' Is Joining The Arcade Archives Range On Switch Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT Utilises an 'evolution' system for your ship. The Arcade Archives range has given us a lot of fantastic retro titles on the Switch eShop, including a number of intriguing lesser-known games. Darwin 4078 definitely qualifies in that category, as it was a Japan-only arcade from Data East that introduced some neat ideas to the vertical scrolling shooter genre. Across 16 levels a key gimmick is 'evolution', with your ship evolving as you progress and collect EVOL capsules. Too long without picking these up and you'll begin to devolve, but there are certain conditions where you want to be hit by enemies at a certain point of evolution in order to unlock a special, powerful form. This is certainly a game where a bit of internet research and comparing notes with others will add to the experience. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

New Trailer Showcases Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania's 'Wondrous Worlds' Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:30 AM PDT Keep rollin'. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania was certainly a stand-out announcement during Nintendo's E3 Direct, bringing a whole lot of the IP's best content to Switch. With over 300 stages from the first two GameCube releases, a story mode, online leaderboards and some rather effective looking gyro controls, it could be a huge amount of fun when it lands on 5th October. RPG 'Swords & Souls: Neverseen' Comes To Console For The First Time On Switch Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:00 AM PDT And we don't have long to wait. SoulGame Studio has announced that its popular RPG Swords & Souls: Neverseen is about to launch on console for the very first time, with a Switch release just around the corner. The game, which has gathered a decent number of players and very favourable user reviews since launching on Steam in 2019, will arrive on Switch on 18th August. Those who haven't played Neverseen might still recognise the Swords & Souls brand from the series' original release; the first Swords & Souls game was the number one title on web game portals Kongregate and Armor Games. Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - A Remaster That Truly Soars Posted: 14 Jul 2021 06:00 AM PDT A Legend Reborn. Returning to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword some ten whole years down the line from its original release, you may be expecting, as we certainly were, to be greeted by a core game that's unavoidably, naturally, beginning to show its age in some regards. It stands to reason, this is an entry in Nintendo's storied franchise that's had its detractors from the get-go, criticised for its sometimes unreliable motion controls, its fractured overworld, intrusive sidekick, pacing and some late-game repetition. Surely by now these issues — these rough edges — have been exacerbated, and even added to, by the natural progression of time. Well, whether or not any of that might have been the case seems quite beside the point now; with this HD remaster, Nintendo has taken its gust bellows to a layer of jank that, in hindsight, stood between players and the true promise, the full potential, of this masterpiece. The raft of tweaks, changes and updates drip-fed to us in the months leading up to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD's release may not have seemed all that exciting on paper — this isn't some ground-up remake and there's no new content or notable changes to how things unfold — but together they give the underlying game here a whole new lease of life. This HD remaster feels like how we were meant to originally experience this adventure, the connection between the game's world and the player now unimpeded. Tencent Reportedly Planning To Acquire Crytek Through Subsidiary Posted: 14 Jul 2021 05:00 AM PDT Though it's 'not a secret' that Crytek is talking to potential buyers. Tencent is an increasingly powerful influence in media and entertainment business around the world, making investments and acquisitions in various major brands. As one of China's most prominent corporations it also provides a gateway into that market; notably Nintendo teamed up with the company for Switch distribution in the country. Tencent is now reportedly exploring plans to acquire Crytek (via a subsidiary) for over €300 million - Crytek is known for titles like Crysis (with Crysis Remastered Trilogy on the way to Switch soon) and more recently Hunt: Showdown. Arguably the bigger part of the business is its CryEngine technology / engine, now in its fifth full iteration and used / licensed for a number of third-party games. Evercade's 'Renovation Collection 1' Will Bring A Dozen Rare Games To The System Posted: 14 Jul 2021 03:00 AM PDT Features games never previously released in Europe. In a little over a year the system has built up a unique collection of physical cart releases and bundles that has certainly attracted an eager audience of retro enthusiasts and collectors. Someone Thinks They've Resolved Nintendo's Joy-Con Drift Problem With An Incredibly Simple Fix Posted: 13 Jul 2021 07:25 PM PDT "There you go, Nintendo". If you're desperate to salvage those drifting Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, have watched all the videos online (including our own), and still haven't had any luck, then why not try this new fix that's surfaced on YouTube, which is claiming to have solved Joy-Con drift problems once and for all. VK's Channel on YouTube identified how the Joy-Con realigns when pressure is applied to the surrounding area of the analog stick - therefore increasing pressure within the Joy-Con (which loosens over time) makes the drift disappear. Square Enix's Octopath Traveler celebrates its third anniversary this week, and while it's no longer a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it's still an amazing game and one we would absolutely recommend trying out if you haven't already. It's got everyone wondering though if there are more adventures to come. While Square Enix has mentioned previously how it's talked about a sequel and what it should be like and how it would likely take a bit more time, there has been no announcement just yet. That's why the latest anniversary tweet for the original game is so exciting. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
