James Bond Is Coming To Rocket League (Or His Car Is, Anyway)

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 03:00 PM PDT

License to beep.

Rocket League is a game about cars playing football. But are people inside the cars? Apparently not — the cars, like the audience, are filled with sentient eggs, according to actual Rocket League lore — but we like to think that James Bond can be the eggception. Er, exception.

007's iconic Aston Martin DB5 first appeared in Goldfinger in 1964, and has since become known as Jamie B's favourite spymobile, appearing again in movies like GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough, Casino Royale, Skyfall (in which it was blown up by the bad guys), and Spectre. It's also been immortalised in LEGO, and the GoldenEye DB5 currently lives in the London Film Museum, as the second most famous car in the UK, after Brum.

Report Outlines Cancelled Plans For Nintendo's Role In Tokyo Olympics Ceremony

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 12:00 PM PDT

Shigeru Miyamoto had been extensively involved.

The Tokyo Olympic Games are currently well underway, with thousands of athletes competing at the highest level in empty arenas due to current public health concerns in the city. It's been a contentious event, with various polls suggesting low support for the Games in Japan, and on the business side various major sponsors have scaled back or withdrawn their involvement.

During the opening ceremony there was an extensive section, as athletes were introduced, in which music from an assortment of major gaming franchises was played. As many pointed out there was no music from Nintendo franchises or Pokémon, which seemed significant especially in light of Nintendo's prominent role in Tokyo's handover at the Rio Olympics closing ceremony. It seems clear that Nintendo would have been asked about appearing.

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 11:00 AM PDT

The final chapter of the story.

Echoing Void is, appropriately, set in The End, and wraps up the story of the Arch-Illager with three new missions, new mobs and enemies, new items and weapons, two new skins, and a pet.

Poll: Can You Still Find Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. And Super Mario 3D All-Stars?

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Mario where are y-- oh there you are.

Finding out that Super Mario 3D All-Stars was going to have a limited production run and would only be sold digitally until 31st March 2021 provoked some strong reactions from many Nintendo fans. Sure, there's an argument to be made that anyone who wanted a copy of this compilation game probably picked one up already, but the notion that access to an incredibly popular and important game like Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy (or Sunshine — yes, we love Sunshine!) was being arbitrarily restricted left a bad taste in the mouth of many gamers. We bought the game — of course we did — but the feeling that we were being strong-armed into it didn't sit well, and neither did the idea that people who bought a Switch from April 2021 would find it increasingly difficult to track down some of the finest games ever made.

Of course, 3D All-Stars wasn't the only product that Nintendo put out to celebrate Super Mario's 35th anniversary — the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. was similarly time-limited, with no more of the nostalgic novelty console being produced shipped to stores after 31st March.

Digimon Survive Has Been Delayed Yet Again, This Time To 2022

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 08:30 AM PDT

It was originally supposed to launch in 2019.

It would appear that Digimon Survive is further away from launch than we thought, with yet another delay resulting in a new and updated '2022' release window.

With the game initially revealed to be launching in 2019, but then delayed to 2020, and then delayed to 2021 before today's third delay to 2022, it's safe to say that Digimon fans have been waiting a long time to get their hands on this upcoming survival RPG. The news comes from TOEI Animation's latest financial report, which now lists the game as a 2022 title under a section titled 'Fiscal Year 2022 Q3 and Beyond' (thanks, Gematsu).

5 Ways That 'Rustler' Indulges Your Medieval 'Ye Olde GTA' Fantasies On Switch

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 07:00 AM PDT

Horse-and-cartmageddon.

Rustler, an upcoming title from developer Jutsu Games and publisher Modus might not be set in a bustling urban environment filled with glistening cars, firearms and daring heists, but it seems that its Medieval world will have more than its fair share of breakneck chases, shady deals and absurd goings on.

Jutsu Games has been in touch and sent along a handful of examples of the Middle Age mayhem you can expect in Rustler's top-down open world. Although you won't find be running over pedestrians in a commandeered Jester RR, it looks like there's plenty of Medieval mischief to get up to, from horse-and-cart antics to rocking out to a raucous remix of Greensleeves (probably) as you engage in shenanigans. And did someone say 'turd grenades'? Yes. Yes, they did.

Review: Risk System - A Smart And Gutsy Shmup

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Do a barrel roll.

Shoot-'em-up players are well known for enjoying a good graze. After all, who doesn't? Cows do, for example. But the important distinction between the bovine graze and the shmupper's graze is that the former involves feeding on grass while the latter refers to moving your craft close to bullets and other danger in order to accrue extra points or possibly fill some sort of secondary bar. So, they're not really the same thing at all, but the spirit is there. Okay, it's not. But the risk was taken, and that's what Risk System is all about.

Risk System is ostensibly a traditional horizontal shoot-'em-up akin to the likes of R-Type, but with stages based around patterns of enemy craft and projectiles rather than environmental hazards. Control is as simple as you'd expect - move with the D-pad or left stick, dodge roll up with the Y button and down with the B button, hitting A to use your barrier bomb.
