Monster Hunter Rise To Add Okami-Themed Content In 'Capcom Collab 2'

Posted: 27 Jul 2021 01:30 AM PDT

A White Wolf? Now that's a rare sight...

Monster Hunter Rise hasn't yet had quite the same bombardment of quirky crossover quests and gear as its Nintendo-platform predecessors, but Capcom has nonetheless kept the free updates and additional content flowing. The next free addition is a bit of a beauty, too.

As you can see in the trailer above, an upcoming Event Quest reward will be an "Ammy Costume", a layered armour set for your Palamute. This is, of course, Sun Goddess Amaterasu from the brilliant Okami, a title Nintendo gamers may know from its Wii and more recently Switch iterations. The hugely stylish adventure RPG is a bit of a favourite here in NL Towers, so combining that with Monster Hunter Rise is rather exciting.

The "Foam Pads" In The Zelda Joy-Con Controllers Aren't New

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 05:55 PM PDT

Update: YouTuber chimes in.

Earlier this month, we ran a story about someone who had supposedly come up with a solution for Joy-Con drift. In case you missed it, the fix requires you to insert a small square of paper or cardboard into the same spot as the analog stick locations in order to reapply pressure to the case of the controller. It's that simple, and so far seems to be working.

Now, a Nintendo Switch user by the name of @Mario_RPG_Fan on Twitter has opened up their brand new Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD controller (yes, someone actually did that) and discovered two foam strips around the analog section of the case...

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 01:00 PM PDT

The jury's in.

You might not really believe in the power of Metacritic — a review aggregation site — to represent the opinions of many, but for those of you who love the Ace Attorney series and want to see it succeed, this will be good news nonetheless.

Here's the current top five Switch games on Metacritic for 2021, based on their average scores:

Raji: An Ancient Epic Enhanced Edition Coming As A Free Update To Switch

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Due later this year.

Raji: An Ancient Epic was a high profile Indie arrival on the Switch eShop last year, catching the eye with its ancient India setting and intriguing mythology. It's made its way onto various platforms since, and now it's been confirmed that an Enhanced Edition is arriving later this year; it'll be a free update for existing owners.

As you can see in the trailer above it'll be adding a Hindi voiceover, 'new game modes' and revamped gameplay. It seems we'll need to wait a little longer for specifics on the new content in particular, but it'll certainly be welcome.

Just 10 Days Since Launch, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Already Amazon's Third Best-Seller Of 2021

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Not a bad start, eh?

If Amazon's sales are anything to go by – and with Amazon being the world's biggest online retailer, we'd say they probably are – The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is having a very solid start to life indeed.

A quick look at Amazon's list of best-selling games of 2021 reveals that Skyward Sword HD is already the company's third best-selling retail game of the year so far. Only Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (which launched back in February), and the world-dominating Animal Crossing: New Horizons have sold better at Amazon this calendar year, with Skyward Sword nabbing that third spot after just ten days since launch.

Review: NEO: The World Ends With You - A Striking Return To The Streets Of Shibuya

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 08:00 AM PDT

The rhythm is calling you back.

For the past 13 years, fans of the Nintendo DS cult classic, The World Ends With You have been practically begging Square Enix to whip up a new entry in the world of the original. The vibes of that first venture are flavour-rich, boasting a bouncy and energetic soundtrack, a loveable cast of characters, and a combat system just as unique as the rest of the game. So we were thrilled to bits when the news of a sequel came across our desk last year, although at the same time cautious, as we hold the tale of the first game close to our hearts.

Would the story of the original have been better off left untouched by NEO: The World Ends With You? Do the creators really have the gusto to match or exceed the energy from that first waltz through Shibuya? Will the new protagonist Rindo and the rest of these runts ever be able to live up to the likes of Neku and company? We've been asking ourselves these same questions for weeks, months even, and thankfully it was all for naught. This new action-RPG romp through Shibuya's streets is full of fresh beats and surprising treats to appease longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Mortal Kombat 11 Passes Twelve Million Sales Worldwide

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 07:00 AM PDT

A hefty hit.

The Mortal Kombat series has shown outstanding longevity, moving beyond controversies over gore in its earliest days to becoming a major part of the current-day gaming scene. Latest entry Mortal Kombat 11 and even its Ultimate Edition have graced the Switch in a pleasant reminder that, when pushed, Nintendo's hardware can deliver some top-grade third-party games on the go.

Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have now confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11, across all platforms and including the multiple editions, has now passed 12 million sales worldwide. The broader franchise has passed 73 million video game units too, so those are pretty big numbers for the fighting IP.

Short but sweet?

Review: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles - Two Detective Games That Do Almost Everything Wright

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Ryunosuke rises from the ashes.

The last time we saw Phoenix Wright and friends, the stars of the Ace Attorney franchise, they were in a made-up country called Khura'in. Spirit of Justice came out for 3DS in 2016, and was relatively divisive — a lot of critics ranked it highly, but others found issue with its "wishy-washy" mechanics and its heavy reliance on made-up mysticism. It also marked a fairly big change in the Ace Attorney games: though they've always been quite coy about where they're set, they've never really left the United States (or Japan, if you're a purist) — at least, until Spirit of Justice, where significant chunks of the story are set in a fictional country.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, as many fans will already know, is set in Meiji-era Japan and Victorian England, making it it almost the exact opposite of Spirit of Justice: instead of being made-up, it's firmly rooted in historical fact and steeped in the vernacular of the time. It can be quite jarring to go from the often light-hearted, goofy fictional world of Phoenix Wright (the man who adopted a daughter out of nowhere, and has a sidekick who can read emotions with a magical bracelet) to the weirdly real world of Wright's ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo — not least because the latter is also very, very Japanese.

No More Heroes 3 Footage Showcases Open World Segments

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Source videos do look better than some YT uploads.

No More Heroes 3 is now, finally, just a short time away. It launches on 27th August and those that have enjoyed the series across its two Wii entries and the Travis Strikes Again spin-off can finally gear up for an all-new title in the series.

Publisher Marvelous has been maintaining a rather impressive official website (Japanese) and sharing regular video clips and updates; clips have then been tweeted out, for example. Recent videos over the past week have given some brief looks at the game's open world segments, and while they don't look particularly impressive there have been reuploads on YouTube that don't do them much justice.

Anticipated Sword-Fighting Platformer Fallen Knight Delayed On Switch

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 04:30 AM PDT

But we do have a new trailer.

Back in April, PQube and FairPlay Studios announced that Fallen Knight would be launching on Switch this summer. It was originally planned to arrive in June, and the game has now been released on PS4, Xbox One and Steam, but the Switch version is still sadly missing in action.

The game certainly caught the attention of the Nintendo Life community when it was first revealed, with many of you praising its visuals and noting it down as one you'll be keeping an eye on. While no new release date has been offered up for the Switch version beyond a 'coming soon in 2021' window, its release on other consoles does at least mean we have some new footage to look at (check out the new trailer above).

Random: An Eager 3DS StreetPass Fan Spent A Day In New York, Got Zero Hits

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 04:00 AM PDT

To steal a witty Reddit post, it's 'StreetPast'.

Earlier this year we wholeheartedly jumped into nostalgia when sharing a video of all StreetPass puzzles, reminiscing on the days when you'd pop the marvellous 3DS into a pocket or bag and return home with some lovely hits. Yes, we miss those days.

A lot of people do, as well, as this Reddit post blew up in which user 'itsmefizzy' said, very simply, that they "spent a whole day in NYC and not one Streetpass received (Nintendo Store included)".

UK Charts: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Settles For Second After A 74% Drop In Weekly Sales

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 02:30 AM PDT

Nintendo takes half of top ten.

UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 24th July, revealing that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD has fallen to second place in its second week on sale.

The game managed to go straight in at number one last week, beating other newcomer F1 2021 to the top prize, but after a 74% drop in physical sales for Zelda this week (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), the two have now switched positions. EA's racer sold best on Xbox Series platforms, followed by PS4 and PS5 respectively, and ultimately shifted more copies across the board than Skyward Sword this time around.

Harmony Of A Hunter Returns Will Bring Us 5 Hours Of Metroid Music

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 02:00 AM PDT

A huge fan collaboration to celebrate the series.

Nintendo's iconic franchises give us lots of fan creations, often in the form of extravagant artwork. For Metroid fans that enjoy the franchise music, the 'Harmony of a Hunter' albums (from a collective referred to as Shinesparkers) are among the highlights that pop up relatively frequently. Distributed for free - as is necessary to avoid Nintendo's wrath, of course - they've given us plenty of hours of entertainment.

Shinesparker's lead Darren Kerwin has now confirmed that, after a bit of a break, Harmony of a Hunter Returns arrives soon - on 6th August. It's a project in memory of a friend of Kerwin that introduced him to Metroid, therefore indirectly inspiring a decade of music, and to celebrate the upcoming 35th Anniversary of the franchise along with Metroid Dread.
