"The characters stick with you because they feel like friends".

It's not every day that a visual novel has the chance to shock and awe the world like Doki Doki Literature Club did on PC back in 2017. The game proved to be a hit, but console gamers were left waiting for some way to experience the tale this anime dating sim tells. Flash forward to the present day and a new Plus version of the game is available on Switch and Nintendo fans are finally able to experience this twisted story for themselves. Head Of Xbox Shuts Down Idea Of Game Pass Coming To Other Platforms (Again)

Posted: 14 Aug 2021 08:00 AM PDT

"closed platforms don't want something like Game Pass".

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently did an interview with GamesRadar about all things related to Microsoft's gaming ecosystem. Once again, the question about bringing Game Pass to other platforms - like the Nintendo Switch - has been raised.

Phil has replied with the same response about how he wants to offer the "full Xbox experience" on these platforms, but the same platforms refuse to cooperate. As a result, there are "no plans" at the moment to bring the Xbox app or Xbox Game Pass to these "closed" systems.

Court Orders Popular ROM Website To "Destroy" All Of Its Unauthorised Nintendo Games

Posted: 14 Aug 2021 07:00 AM PDT

Don't mess with Mario!

You might recall an ongoing legal battle between Nintendo and the website RomUniverse. Although the Japanese video game giant won, it more recently voiced concerns about its possible return after the founder, Matthew Storman, refused to rule out a comeback.

After taking a second look, Judge Marshall last week issued an injunction - with fears a relaunch of the site could still cause "irreparable harm" to Nintendo.

Review: The Silver Case 2425 - Style Over Substance In This Pair Of Early Suda51 Epics

Posted: 14 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Case closed.

Every now and again, we review a game that's just absolutely no fun. The review process can sometimes be a bit of a drag — we know, complaining about a job where you play games for a living is like being annoyed that your career as a biscuit taster is making you put on weight — and unfortunately, The Silver Case 2425, a two-in-one adventure visual novel, is one of those games. With 30+ hours needed to beat the game, that would be enough, but we found this double-pack of games is an absolute slog to get through. Playing them made us want to poke out our eyes with a hot spoon, and we need those eyes to do our jobs.

BUT — and there's a massive 'but', here (teehee) — we also need to make a little disclaimer. You see, this is a Suda51 game, and 'obtuse', 'irritating', 'painfully slow' and 'hard-to-follow' are kinda his thing. If you're into his games, you might adore this but Goichi Suda's style doesn't appeal to everyone, which apparently includes this reviewer. Your mileage may vary, but here's how we fared, at least.

After a busy week it's time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!
