No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 19 Switch Titles For Free (North America) Posted: 25 Nov 2021 10:30 AM PST It sure is a strategy. We've seen developers and publishers race to the bottom in terms of Switch eShop prices, practically giving games away. Then we've seen promotions that have actually given games away for free, with No Gravity Games the latest to jump into that approach this festive season. It's worth noting that all of this is only for North American accounts, it isn't happening on the European eShop. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Feature: All Five American Football Games On Switch (Yes, You Read That Right) Posted: 25 Nov 2021 10:00 AM PST Enough to make you mad(den). It's Thanksgiving in the US as we publish this article, and here in NL Towers we had a bright idea - "let's do a best NFL-style list for Switch, like the Oh how we patted ourselves on the back, knowing that Thanksgiving for many is eat-lots-of-food-and-watch-NFL day. Even as a Brit your humble scribe is (foolishly) a Chicago Bears fan, and will be watching the traditional first game of the day in a battle of the ages against the Detroit Lions. Review: The Wild At Heart - A Gorgeous, Potent Mix Of Pikmin And Luigi's Mansion Posted: 25 Nov 2021 08:00 AM PST Something borrowed, something new. The Wild at Heart feels like an amalgamation of some of Nintendo's most unique gaming mechanics. Such a statement might strike fear into your heart, and we wouldn't blame you. After all, many attempts by third-parties to imitate Nintendo's design traits and tricks have fallen flat thanks to poor execution or a lack of understanding concerning what made such mechanics so great in the first place. The Wild at Heart, however, is one of the most successful stabs at playing Nintendo's game we've seen in some time. Featuring a mix of gameplay elements from Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, and The Legend of Zelda, The Wild at Heart might, on paper at least, seem like it has no ideas of its own, instead being perfectly content with hanging on the coattails of Nintendo's finest. However, despite pulling most of its mechanics from other games — not unlike the similarly magpie-like (and excellent) Death's Door — thanks to its well-realised world, engaging characters, and stunning visual design, developer Moonlight Kids has managed to craft something that feels wholly unique. Sci-Fi Turn-Based Strategy Nova-111 Comes To Switch Next Year Posted: 25 Nov 2021 07:00 AM PST Stellar nova. A combination of turn-based strategy, real-time strategy, and a sort of 2D puzzle platformer-ish spaceship game, Nova-111 originally came out on the Wii U, which means a lot of you might have missed out on it. But we gave it a 9/10, don'tcha know! Luckily for you, you'll be able to weave your way through space-obstacles on the Nintendo Switch just days after Santa's gone back into hibernation, as it comes to Switch early next year. Tails Of Iron Gets Expansive Free 'Bloody Whiskers' DLC Posted: 25 Nov 2021 05:00 AM PST A bit of a long tail game. Since its release in September there's been positive word of mouth around Tails of Iron, a challenging RPG in which you play as a heroic King rat on a quest to reclaim their throne. It's got an attractive art style and has excellent user reviews (along with ringing endorsements from a couple in the NL team), and now it's had a hefty free update to expand the game. Called 'Bloody Whiskers', it adds a post-story questline in which you tackle 5 challenging bosses, two new rooms to open up in The Keep, six weapon skins and five armour skins. In addition it adds two difficulty modes - 'Bloody Whiskers' is a highly challenging option, and at the other end of the scale there's 'Fairy Tail' which is "for those looking for a story-first experience". NES Classic Battletoads Is Getting A Physical Re-Release, But Only In Japan Posted: 25 Nov 2021 04:45 AM PST Columbus Circle is launching a new version today. Battletoads is one of Rare's most beloved games from the NES era. An attempt to create a media brand that could rival the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Battletoads mixed platforming with side-scrolling combat, and is famous for its unforgiving difficulty level. It spawned several sequels (including a crossover with Double Dragon) and has recently been revived on modern systems. Columbus Circle, the Japanese firm famous for its retro hardware and physical re-releases, is republishing the Famicom version of the game today. It's under licence from Extreme, the company which owns the rights of Masaya / NCS, the original publisher of the game in Japan back in the early '90s. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Pokémon GO Creator's AR Platform Is Now Being Used To Hunt Bitcoin, Not Pocket Monsters Posted: 25 Nov 2021 04:30 AM PST "This is the easiest, most fun way to get your first piece of Bitcoin". Niantic, the studio being the smartphone hit Pokémon GO, has lent its AR platform to payments company Fold to create a new kind of 'catch 'em all' adventure – but this time, players are hunting for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin rather than monsters. Payments company Fold has leveraged Niantic's AR platform to create an in-app experience where users can earn Bitcoin by exploring a virtual environment based on their immediate surroundings, described by the firm as a "real-world metaverse". Random: Ever Wondered What Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Looks Like Without Cel-Shading? Posted: 25 Nov 2021 02:30 AM PST No? Well it's something like this... Zelda: Breath of the Wild may not be running on cutting-edge hardware – even by 2017 standards – but it's still one phenomenally good-looking video game, and proves that aesthetic brilliance doesn't always have to go hand-in-hand with graphical muscle. The game's mix of sprawling 3D environments and cel-shaded characters is incredibly effective, but Reddit user MicroFlamer decided to check out what it would look like if Nintendo had opted for the more traditional approach and not included cel-shading. The results are shiny and plastic-like, as you might expect, and call to mind the toy-like visuals seen in the Zelda: Link's Awakening remake. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:00 PM PST A complete round. When Mario Golf: Super Rush launched it was enjoyable but a bit 'b-tier', as we argued in our review. While it's still not matching the quality set by some other first-party titles on Switch, three major updates have greatly enhanced the content on offer. Online play is much improved, and there have been multiple new courses and modes to flesh out the experience. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
