Video: YouTuber's Ultimate Switch OLED Test "Finally" Delivers Burn-In After 3,600 Hours Posted: 07 Mar 2022 05:30 PM PST There's really "nothing to worry about". You might recall a story we ran earlier this year about a 1,800-hour Switch OLED burn-in test. It was done by the graphic artist and content creator Bob Wulff over on his YouTube channel the Wulff Den. At the time, there was "no noticeable burn-in". He's now posted an update over on YouTube, and in this video, he reveals how the system finally has some signs of burn-in. It's happened after about six months and roughly 3,600 hours. Again, that's the Switch running a still screen of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild day in, day out, on the one screen, and it's taken that long to show some signs of ghosting. Random: Valve Artist Reimagines Ace Attorney Characters As '80s Lawyers Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:30 PM PST Nobody puts Apollo in a corner. Anyone who has eyes and a heart and a copy of at least one of the Ace Attorney games will agree that it is a game series full of stone-cold hotties. (Can you be both stone-cold and a hottie?) From the aloof, dadly suavity of the maroon-suited Edgeworth to the distressing ghost-cleavage of Mia Fey inhabiting other people's bodies, there's something for everyone, and although we definitely play it for the plot, it doesn't hurt to have a few well-dressed fine young lawyers propping up the bench. Dungeon Color Is A Rainbow-Filled Puzzle Game About Setting Your Head On Fire Posted: 07 Mar 2022 01:30 PM PST Oops, upside your head (is some fire). In Dungeon Color, you are a tiny, happy golem stuck in a dungeon with colour-coded doors and colour-coded fire everywhere. Use the fire to light your own head on fire, and use your head-flame to open the corresponding doors to complete each level! (Do not try this at home.) Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: Did A Cheeky Nando's Inspire The New Pokémon Games? Probably Not Posted: 07 Mar 2022 12:30 PM PST Portugal exists, people. Fan theories tend to range from the irritating ("My dad's dentist knows a guy at Nintendo who says there's a new F-Zero game but it won't be about racing") to the inoffensively silly ("Luigi is the stronger brother, why does he not simply eat Mario"). Today's rumour is closer to the "inoffensively silly" end of the spectrum, but nevertheless, we feel the need to debunk it all the same. Get ready for the most pedantic rumour-busting you've ever seen! So: Are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet inspired by a trip that the developers took to the infamously cheeky Afro-Portuguese chicken restaurant (and accidental bastion of British culture), Nando's? Let's find out. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Feature: 7 Reasons For Picking Starter Pokémon, But How Do You Pick Yours? Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:00 AM PST What's love got to do with it? Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have finally been shown to the world and in spite of all the important debates whirling around the internet right now about the development team's enormous workload, concerned speculation over exactly how we're going to catch all of the new Pokémon this time around after Arceus' welcome refresh of an age-old mechanic, and 'Wait, I've not finished the last one yet!', there is only one question that really matters — the one everyone with even the mildest interest in the series can't help but ask themselves the instant the latest trailer's finished: Which starter is the right one for me? The importance of this question cannot be understated and, indeed, one we posed you lovely readers very soon after the reveal of Gen 9's starters. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Rumour: Mario Party Superstars DLC May Be On The Way Posted: 07 Mar 2022 09:15 AM PST A second helping of friendly squabbles. With 100 returning minigames from the entire franchise and five classic boards to play on, Mario Party Superstars is a nostalgia feast bigger than Peach's Birthday Cake. It's the sort of game that's ripe for DLC, and if YouTube ads are anything to go by, there might be some on the way. A Reddit user has spotted an advert on the YouTube app (thanks, Nintendo Everything) that asks what DLC pack you'd most likely pick up next. The four options are Hot Wheels Unleashed, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Happy Home Paradise DLC, and Mario Party Superstars. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: Man Who Just Wanted To Play Duck Hunt With His Kids Built His Own Light Gun Posted: 07 Mar 2022 08:40 AM PST "I thought Duck Hunt on a 50-inch TV would be amazing". For many of us, the light gun was a part of our childhood. Whether it was grabbing your NES Zapper only to be mocked by a dog in Duck Hunt, or heading to the arcade and spending those few pennies of pocket money you saved up every week for a quick blast of Time Crisis, it captured the imagination and excitement of kids all over. The retro community has long been working on getting light guns such as the Zapper, the Super Scope, and even Sony-compatible products like the Namco GunCon (G-Con) family of peripherals, working on our incompatible modern day TVs. Random: It's Been 1000 Days Since Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Was Announced Posted: 07 Mar 2022 07:30 AM PST Feeling old yet? It still only feels like yesterday that we all plonked our bums down to watch Nintendo's E3 2019 showcase, where the company revealed the existence of an upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Well, thanks to Nintendo Life's own video producer Felix Sanchez (and also a calendar), we now know that it's been 1000 days since that exciting day, and we feel, well... older. Random: Let Psyduck Spray Your Tea For You With This Adorable Pokémon Teapot Posted: 07 Mar 2022 06:45 AM PST Let's hope it doesn't give you amnesia. Pokémon merchandise is some of the most adorable and eclectic video game-based swag you can buy, with Pikachu and the gang turning up in imaginative forms across a huge range of products. We might just have one of the very best examples, though: Ensky, known for selling lots of unique official Pokémon merchandise — such as these paper theatre displays or a Yamper wrist support — is releasing a Psyduck Teapot. The teapot is based on the Sprayduck from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and is ideal for tea for two people. Poké_Times has a little demonstration of how not to use the teapot (No, seriously, we don't recommend watering your plants with tea. That's a waste of perfectly good tea). AM2R Creator Isn't A Fan Of Metroid Dread's E.M.M.I. Encounters Posted: 07 Mar 2022 06:00 AM PST "It's distinct and unique but it's also kind of annoying". MecurySteam, the studio who worked with Nintendo on 3DS' Metroid: Samus Returns, the remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus, has really hit it out of the park with Metroid Dread on Switch. But, given the studio's debut with the series — which launched soon after one of the most popular and well-known Metroid fan games, Another Metroid 2 Remake (Project AM2R) — it's only natural that the creator of that game has something to say on the topic of Samus' latest all-new adventure. In a recent episode of the KIWI TALKZ podcast, DoctorM64 — now a programmer at Ori & the Will of the Wisps developer Moon Studios — talked about the difficulties of making AMR2, the influence of Metroid Zero Mission and how that influenced the trajectory of the project, Skippy the Robot, and more. Take-Two Faces Lawsuit Over "Deceptive And Unlawful" Loot Boxes In NBA 2K Posted: 07 Mar 2022 05:15 AM PST Deemed "unfair, deceptive, and unlawful". Loot boxes have been around for a little while now, yet their implementation in games continues to face scrutiny and controversy. In the latest development concerning this particular form of microtransactions, major publisher Take-Two interactive is facing a class action lawsuit over its use of loot boxes in the NBA 2K franchise. Originally reported by Bloomberg, the suit was filed on behalf of a minor and their guardian, with the complainant stating that loot boxes "psychologically distance" players from the true financial impact of such purchases, with minors being particularly susceptible to their appeal. Kit & Krysta Discuss Why They Think Nintendo Is Dumping EVO This Year Posted: 07 Mar 2022 04:30 AM PST A one-two-three punch. Ex-Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have shared their thoughts on the potential reasons for why Nintendo has effectively ditched EVO, the world's premier fighting game tournament. Through their new 'Kit & Krysta' podcast (vidcast??), the pair detailed three potential reasons for the move, all of which sound pretty viable to us. The first is that Sony have purchased the rights to the EVO brand; naturally, Nintendo may see this as a conflict of interest and won't want to get directly involved at this stage. Cast your mind back to 2003 (we know — yikes, right?) and you might recall a relatively brief commercial for the critically acclaimed RPG Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the Game Boy Advance. Memory Pak: I Was Accidentally In The Perfect Place For The Nintendo Switch Launch Week Posted: 06 Mar 2022 08:00 AM PST No, it wasn't "The Free Nintendo Switch Shop", that doesn't exist. Soapbox and 'Memory Pak' articles give our team a chance to share some personal perspectives; today it's the turn of Kate Gray to tell us her memories of the week the Switch came out, five years ago... Five-ish years ago, in February 2017, I had just decided to move country. I had moved out of my ludicrously expensive London apartment that I shared with two other people the year before, in order to travel the world a little bit and generally be very in my 20s. I mostly hopped from couch to couch, staying with generous friends, here and there, which freed me up to go to conferences and conventions in exotic locales without having to worry about rent back home.
