Amazon Reportedly Developing A Live-Action God Of War Series Posted: 07 Mar 2022 03:25 PM PST Platform: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC According to Deadline, Amazon is vying to bring God of War to its streaming service as a live-action TV show. The outlet reports that sources close to the matter have told them Amazon is currently negotiating for the show. Reportedly, the showrunners of Amazon's hit sci-fi show The Expanse, as well as The Wheel of Time, will helm the series alongside PlayStation Productions. Representatives from both Sony and Amazon Studios declined to comment on Deadline's story. There's no word on what the show itself would entail or whether it's based on the original Greek mythology series or the current Norse-themed games. Either would make sense given that PlayStation Productions exists to expand Sony's first-party franchises into broader media, such as the recent Uncharted film and upcoming Ghost of Tsushima movie. If true, it wouldn't be the first video game live-action show on Amazon's plate. It's currently developing a Fallout show, recently casting Walton Goggins in an unknown role. Other video game adaptions hitting TV include HBO's The Last of Us, which premieres next year, and Paramount+ subscribers can look forward to the upcoming Halo series. Paramount also recently announced a Sonic the Hedgehog movie spin-off starring Knuckles. |
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga To Get Mandalorian, Rogue One Characters, And More As DLC Posted: 07 Mar 2022 01:04 PM PST Platform: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is due out on April 5, and today, TT Games revealed some of the launch-day DLC that will be available in the game's Character Collection. The Character Collection is essentially the game's Season Pass, and it will consist of seven DLC packs. The first of those will be packs themed around Season One of The Mandalorian, Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Classic Characters, and the Trooper pack. As you might expect, the first Mandalorian pack will include the Mandalorian, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, IG-11, and Kuill, as reported by Eurogamer. Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, will also come with this pack, but unfortunately, he won't be a playable character (but he will be a very cute following character). As noted by Eurogamer, Cara Dune's inclusion in the character pack is an odd one, considering we likely won't ever be seeing that character in the actual Disney Plus show ever again, at least as portrayed by actress Gina Carano. She was fired from the series after posting multiple social media posts seen as transphobic and anti-Semitic amidst other concerns. Once Carano was let go, companies attached to Mandalorian merchandise like Hasbro and Funko canceled plans around Cara Dune figures and more. But, she remains in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The Solo-inspired pack will include that movie's versions of Han, Chewie, and Lando (you'll find their older counterparts in the game as well). Plus, it includes Qi'ra, Tobias Beckett, and Enfys Nest. The Classic Character pack, on the other hand, includes Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia. Eurogamer notes that those who purchase versions with early access to these packs from select retail businesses will get these characters on launch. Otherwise, these packs will be available to anyone who's purchased the Character Collection on April 19. On that same day, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story pack, which includes characters like Jyn Erso and K-2SO, will go live. Finally, on Star Wars Day, aka May 4, the Season 2 pack of The Mandalorian, including Boba Fett, Moff Gideon, and Bo Katan will go live, as will the Bad Batch pack. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on April 5. Posted: 07 Mar 2022 11:33 AM PST Platform: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC Although WWE 2K22 launches Friday, March 11, review embargo lifted today. However, since we didn't receive codes until yesterday (Sunday), we need to spend a lot more time in the ring before rendering a complete verdict. Until then, here are some early impressions. So far, I've only played a few singles matches and have started the Showcase mode. Although I haven't seen every wrestler or entrance, I will say that 2K22 is a good-looking game. As a wrestling fan, it's hard not to nitpick little things that probably wouldn't bother a more casual viewer/player (Finn Bálor's finger-pointing during his entrance looks a bit robotic), and hair, while improved, isn't all the way there. Still, the in-ring animations appear smooth and life-like. The improved cinematography during entrances makes a noticeable difference in selling the idea that I'm playing a TV broadcast. The lighting looks especially great as well, shining brightest during the Showcase modes' historical bouts, which recreate the ambiance of events from the 90s/00s. So far, it's a marked improvement over 2K20's graphics. ![]() Booting up the game presents the option of playing through a nifty and humorous tutorial of the game's revamped combat (hosted by Drew Gulak), which I recommend everyone play no matter how experienced they are. It doesn't take long and does a decent job breaking down 2K22's more approachable combat, which feels like a middle-ground between the arcade-style action of the old Smackdown series with the realistic simulation of the recent 2K games. In my short time with 2K22, I'm enjoying the gameplay more than I have in the previous 2K titles. The streamlined controls feel more pick-up-and-play friendly, but I'd have to pass the controller to a complete newcomer to test that theory. I've found it easier to remember where moves are mapped, and stringing together different types of melee combos quickens the pace. Pins and submissions return to the button-mashing contests of the 2000s era-Smackdown titles, which reintroduce a fun intensity I've always preferred over the "stop the meter" mini-games of the modern WWE titles. That said, the action remains very animation-heavy, with some extended sequences that can make it tough to discern reversal windows, although on-screen indicators help somewhat. The game feels faster but don't expect the snappiness of, say, a Smackdown vs. Raw. Triangle/Y acts as the general reversal button, but a new counter called Breaker is the only way to reverse grapple moves by hitting the same button you expect your opponent to press. Since this boils down to either a light or heavy grapple, you have a 50 percent chance of getting it right, assuming you time it correctly. I'm torn on this system. Though it does prevent matches from devolving into non-stop countering, I've found the guessing game aspect a bit annoying. There's no way to know what your opponent will do, so instead of deciding which button to press, I always chose heavy grapple. The odds are the same, but at least I might prevent taking a more powerful move. My opinion may change, but I'm not loving Breakers so far. ![]() This year's Showcase highlights the career of cover star Rey Mysterio, letting players experience what's essentially an interactive version of a WWE Network special. I'm about 25% of the way through, and I'm underwhelmed so far. It would be unreasonable to expect Showcase to cover every major milestone in his career, but it's far less comprehensive than previous iterations of the mode and doesn't do his career justice. Fans of his WCW run only get his Halloween Havoc '97 classic with Eddie Guerrero to enjoy, for example. In fact, each of the four eras of his career is represented by three matches apiece with the sizable stretch of 1997-2005 solely focused on Rey's rivalry with Eddie (his Wrestlemania 21 bout and the Eddie Tribute Show on Raw against Shawn Michaels are the other match-ups). Showcase omits anything else before 2006, though his WrestleMania 22 World Championship victory, arguably his biggest achievement, is absent due to the lack of Kurt Angle. The same goes for his big return at SummerSlam 07 since Chavo Guerrero isn't in the game either. Since some of Mysterio's best WWE programs have been against names currently unavailable to WWE for one reason or another (Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes) or are taboo (Chris Benoit), the 12 chosen matches mostly feel like they were drawn out of a hat (Mysterio vs Gran Metalik on Raw? Really?). Even then, the feuds they could have highlighted in their place are strangely absent, such as Seth Rollins in 2020. It made me realize some of Mysterio's best WWE matches had him taking a loss and Showcase largely highlights victories. All of these factors lead me to believe that Mysterio was a better choice on paper than in practice for Showcase, at least for this year. Playing this mode still tasks you with completing certain objectives while simultaneously avoiding a loss. Completing all objectives unlocks extra characters/arenas, but you're free to simply win the match and move on if you don't feel like completing the extra credit. Showcase is another good destination to visit early since it further introduces mechanics the tutorial glosses over. In a new twist, gameplay moments will seamlessly transition to actual footage of the match you're playing in a cool stylistic touch. Rey provides commentary on the match as well, but rough sound mixing means the background music muffles a lot of what he's saying and there's no option in the settings to adjust this. I still have a ton of game to play and these impressions can evolve and change over time. WWE 2K22 hasn't committed any egregious crimes as of yet, so I'm cautiously optimistic to see how other match types and modes shape up. My full review should go up sometime this week (hopefully by launch day) so keep an eye on Game Informer for the final assessment. For more impressions, you can check out my previous hands-on look at 2K22's MyGM mode. |
Glover Returns To PC This April With "Completely Redone" Port Posted: 07 Mar 2022 11:05 AM PST Piko Interactive is resurrecting a long-dormant mascot platformer we've not heard from in over two decades. Confirmed in Piko's Twitter account and a listing on Steam, everyone's favorite hand is back with the return of Glover.
With a release date set for April 20 on PC, Piko's port of Glover is said to be "completely redone" using the Nintendo 64 version's source code. Complete with six worlds and 30 total stages, players will puzzle their way through Glover by changing the titular character's form and the properties of magic crystals disguised as rubber balls to navigate and clear each level. Originally released in 1998 for Nintendo 64 and PC, with a PlayStation port a year later, Glover was a creation of the Oliver Twins, a duo of prolific British game design brothers who formed the now-defunct Interactive Games. Now, 24 years later, will this new version allow the glove to get the love some think it deserves? We'll know in just over a month. Are you excited or surprised by the return of Glover? Let us know in the comments! |

Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire No Longer In Development For Switch Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:09 AM PST Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux Obsidian's massive RPG, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, is no longer coming to Switch. Publisher Versus Evil made this announcement in its official Discord, stating that it has canceled the Switch version of this RPG first released in 2018 on PC and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2020. The studio kept the news brief and opted not to expand on why the Switch version had been canceled. "Hey there," Versus Evil wrote, as reported by Eurogamer. "Unfortunately, after much deliberation, we have decided not to move forward with Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire for the Nintendo Switch." Click here to watch embedded media A Switch version of Deadfire was announced way back in 2018. It was delayed a few times before Obsidian, and Versus Evil went virtually silent on the title, even amidst news of its console release in 2020. While there's no public reason for Deadfire's Switch cancellation, a look back at the development of the first Pillars of Eternity on Switch might reveal some key information. In February of 2020, Versus Evil announced that there would be no further updates for the Switch version of Pillars of Eternity due to the hardware, as noted by Eurogamer. "[We] reached a limit on what we can do with our updates to the game and have exhausted the options left to us from the PC original in regards to the limitations of the hardware we are working with," Versus Evil said at the time. Perhaps the Switch hardware and its limitations are the reason Deadfire's development for it has ceased. For more about the game, read Game Informer's Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Review and then check out this turn-based mode that hit the game nearly a year after its launch after that. Halo Infinite Multiplayer: Season 2 Is Called Lone Wolves Posted: 07 Mar 2022 06:49 AM PST Platform: Xbox One, PC There are still a couple of months left in Season 1: Heroes of Reach in Halo Infinite, but creative director Joseph Staten has revealed some of what we can expect in Season 2. More specifically, Staten has revealed in a new blog post that Season 2 will be called Lone Wolves. It will launch with its own battle pass, of course, but it will also feature at least one new Big Team Battle map called Breaker and a new Arena map called Catalyst. Both are expected to go live when Season 2: Lone Wolves begins on May 3. Click here to watch embedded media "If you check your Season 1 Battle Pass, you will see that Season 1 ends on May 2nd, and that's because Season 2 will launch May 3rd," Staten writes in the blog post. "I'm very excited to announce the official name and theme for Season 2, which is…'Lone Wolves.' By 'Theme,' we mean a core idea that guides the creation of much, but not all, of a Season's content. Lone Wolf Spartans are hunters. Trackers. They're resourceful improvisers, operating deep in enemy territory without resupply or support. They're fierce, rugged, and prefer to work alone – but they're still loyal to the Spartan pack."Here's a look at two of the season's Lone Wolves: ![]() Not all Season 2's content is attached to this Lone Wolves theme, though. For example, below is a look at the free Fracture armor core for Season 2, which, as you can see, is quite the departure from the look of Lone Wolves. ![]() "During Season 2, we will also be shipping playlist updates, balance changes, new modes, and maps, specifically, one Arena map named 'Catalyst' and one BTB map named 'Breaker,'" Staten writes. "The new modes include 'Last Spartan Standing,' a free-for-all elimination mode, as well as another new mode named 'Land Grab,' plus the return of an updated, all-time favorite mode, 'King of the Hill.'" Here's a look at Catalyst and Breaker, respectively: Click here to view embedded media Staten's update also dives into the delay of online and split-screen campaign co-op, which is now coming sometime later during Season 2, and an update on Forge, which is expected in Season 3. The update concludes with a tease of the next Season 1 event, Tactical Ops. This event begins next week and it includes variants of Tactical Slayer alongside "new, Mark VII core-focused rewards to earn." Here's a tease for the event included in the blog post: ![]() For more about Halo Infinite, read Game Informer's Halo Infinite review and then check out this breakdown of why campaign co-op has been delayed.
